THE COVID-19 PERSPECTIVE

How I push though the training difficulties associated with a Self-isolation

Since this pandemic started, it has been very difficult to motivate myself and train at a good level. We know it is affecting all of us, but we also know and should be thankful for being healthy. Today I was listening to a soccer podcast while training in the garage and at first, they said a phrase: “I cried when I didn't have shoes but I stopped crying when I saw a legless man” (William Shakespeare). Life is full of blessings and many times we do not value it. I have been without football and not be able to train with my team for over a month. It’s a huge challenge. There are days when I wake up without desire, without wanting to train and thinking when all of these will be over ??? I sit and think, if there are people in more difficult situations than me, why do I complain?

I have three options:

1) Sit down, turn on the television, and eat.

2) Make the most of each day and push through, not allowing myself to give in to any moments of self – pitty or indulgence… or;

3) Take the time, think, plan and do. Enjoy some tv time, but as a reward for making the most of my day by doing the things I set out to do!

The next morning, I began to have more control over my thoughts and train my mind, focusing on the basics; such as recognising the blessings in my life and thankful for my families good health and for having a good roof over my head and food in the fridge. I then mind mapped my schedule. Starting with my training programs that I commit too during this indefinite quarantine period. Next, I set goals to read and or watch a documentary which taught me something everyday.

I believe this will help me to see the progress I was making each day, even if they are small.

I have been adapting to the new routine that I had never practiced… and today, I relalised that thinking and doing more positive things has energised me and as the days have passed I have begun to know more about the places in my little home, even to love them more, to use and enjoy them. I began to reflect more on life, and I realized how fast we go in our society, that sometimes without realizing it we don't even know what is happening around us. A society that demands us as people; as professionals, as children, as couples, as uncles and aunts, as grandchildren as friends ... etc ... A competitive society that leads us to be better but at the cost of leaving our families, often not being able to share with children and therefore ... a powerful and influential society.

I wonder what will happen after we go through this? . If we are not better people after this pandemic, what can we expect ...?

I will tell you what I hope…. I hope we learn to be more patient and thoughtful of one another. That we treat are gentle with ourselves and mindful of our positive and negative thoughts. That is is ok to feel down or demotivated sometimes… life is a wonderful and beautiful gift and we must appreciate every breath we have… but there is so much growth to be done by moving, and taking action. There is nothing more significant than picking ourselfs up and achieving something little every day.

What they say is true. A journey of 1000 miles begins with one step… Imagine where those steps can take you and everyday take a step. You know you can. Believe it. Get excited about it.
